April, Real Estate Literacy Month: Useful Resources for Condominiums

Every year in April, the Organisme d’autoréglementation du courtage immobilier du Québec (OACIQ) organizes Real Estate Literacy Month.

This initiative aims to inform and raise public awareness about issues related to residential real estate in Quebec.

According to a Léger survey conducted in 2024, 58% of Quebecers believe they have poor knowledge of the real estate field, which can lead to poorly informed decisions when it comes to a transaction or property management.

Educational activities open to all

All activities during Real Estate Literacy Month are:

  • Completely free of charge,
  • Available online,
  • And accessible to anyone with an interest in real estate, whether directly or indirectly (owners, buyers, sellers, renters, students, etc.).

From April 1 to 30, 2025, participants can access:

  • Interviews with real estate brokerage experts,
  • Podcasts and practical clips on various topics,
  • Interactive quizzes,
  • And support from the virtual assistant Élise and the OACIQ Info service to ask their questions.

No real estate transaction is required to participate in the activities, and no commercial solicitation takes place.

Topics related to co-ownership

Among this year’s topics, several are especially relevant for co-owners and property managers:

  • The new co-ownership regulation,
  • Hidden defects and the importance of building inspections,
  • Protection of vulnerable individuals in real estate transactions,
  • Access to homeownership for first-time buyers,
  • Preparing a budget for a real estate transaction.

These resources can help owners better understand their rights and responsibilities, whether before, during, or after a transaction.

A useful initiative for co-owners

Real Estate Literacy Month offers practical tools to become better informed and make well-informed real estate decisions. For co-owners, it can be a valuable resource to better understand certain aspects of managing their building or private unit.
