Condominium Managers Welcome Increased Regulation

The condominium industry is not only moving in our province but there is change in the air in Ontario as well :

TORONTO, July 18, 2013 /CNW/ – The Association of Condominium Managers of Ontario applauds the Ontario Government’s decision to increase protection for condominium owners.

The Minister of Consumer Services Tracy MacCharles today announced the Ontario Government is moving forward with mandatory qualifications for condominium managers.

“This will bring added security for the province’s 1.3 million condominium owners,” says the President of the Association of Condominium Managers of Ontario (ACMO), Steven Christodoulou, RCM.

The proposal for mandatory qualifications is the first change flowing from the review of Ontario’s Condominium Act. Half of all new homes currently being built are condominiums, and the Ontario Government is bringing The Condominium Act, which was passed in 1998, up to date.

“We are pleased the government recognizes the importance of regulating the condominium manager profession,” says Christodoulou. “It was a key recommendation made by ACMO and the working group assisting in the review of the Condominium Act.”

Now, just hope that the combined efforts of the Quebec condominium industry stakeholders will bear fruits and that our government will be inspired by the progress of our neighbors.
